Cara Wood is situated in a beautiful scenic area on the West Coast close to Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye. Located just off the A87 and near to Balmacara Bay, the Balmacara National Trust for Scotland (NTS) Gardens and NTS Lochalsh Woodland Park, it is surrounded by a variety of nature and conservational interests. The woodland is easily accessible and consists of diverse broadleaf and conifer trees as well as a significant variety of fungi, flora and fauna. There are two small burns at either end of the woodland, the northernmost one being particularly pretty and well-defined. The terrain rises in the middle of the wood to the head of a mound which can be scaled via a rough path along the western boundary.
Access is taken off the minor public road to the east and there is a full right of access over the track adjacent to the southern boundary.
Sporting rights are included.
Surrounding Area: The Lochalsh Peninsula has many famous attractions including the picturesque village of Plockton, Eilean Donan Castle and is en route to the Isle of Skye, home to the imposing Cuillin Hills, and further north to Torridon, Wester Ross. The sea lochs of Loch Alsh, Loch Duich and Loch Carron offer opportunities for water activities and viewing a variety of sea and coastal wildlife. Kyle of Lochalsh is 3 miles away whilst Fort William is 70 miles away.
Boundaries: The boundaries of the wood are clear and indicated on trees and fence posts with blue markings. The southern boundary runs along the edge of a hard stone, laid track leading to a private house over which there is a right of access. The western boundary is marked by an old bank with fencing running parallel. The northern boundary runs adjacent to a track leading to another private house. The eastern boundary is along a bank running adjacent and with direct road frontage onto the minor public road.
