Description: Mature oak, ash and beech set amongst young mixed spruce and larch which were planted after the previous harvest. Situated on a gently sloping hillside the land is well-drained and from the woodland there are panoramic views south, east and north across the glens. There is a good internal vehicle track leading to a parking/camping area in the middle with a pedestrian path continuing to loop around the rest of the woodland. The spruce and hybrid larch have established well and are of a size where some modest brashing of the best specimens could eventually result in some fine sawlog timber. Red deer and red squirrel are frequent visitors. There is a diverse bird life and the wild flowers, including a spring showing of bluebells, suggest that much of the woodland can be classed as semi-natural ancient woodland. A good combination of conservation woodland with optional oppportunities for timber production for those who like being involved in forestry.
Access: Is via a hard stone track leading off the A714 over which there is a legal all-purpose vehicular right of access, shown green on the plans. The main internal access into Dolin Wood turns off the track along the eastern boundary beyond which point along this eastern boundary track it is a forestry right of access for Dolian Wood and an all purposes access for the woodland below. Further internal access is via a circular pedestrian path.
Sporting rights: are included with the land.
Mineral Rights: These are owned and included with the land except where reserved by statute.
Surrounding Area: Dolian Wood is perched in the central part of of the Daljarrock Forest in mixed wooded hillside settings in the pretty River Stinchar valley. There is a great variety of wildlife in the valley, including red squirrel, red deer, roe deer, otters, badgers and reptiles, and birds from blue tits to buzzards, plover to peregrine. Many nearby walks and the tranquil unspoilt environment make the area perfect for nature and general outdoor enthusiasts. A walk up Knockdolian Hill provides panoramic views and the new long-distance walking route - The Carrick Way - is scheduled to open very shortly. The huge Galloway and Carrick Forests can be explored further to the East, and the coastal town of Girvan, and shingle beaches at Woodland and Ballantrae Bay, are within 10 miles to the West. Nearby Pinwherry and Barrhill villages have local services whilst Colmonell and Dailly have forestry mills/suppliers too. Ayr, Stranraer and Newton Stewart are within 30 miles.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
