Looking a Picture – Your Woodland

Looking a Picture - Your Woodland

What is the next best thing to being out in your woods, particularly during these long dark evenings?  Well, how about a beautiful painting of your favourite spot, captured in all its summer glory, or at leaf-burst in spring, or cloaked in autumn mist or ...

Artist Helen Setterington and her partner Andy relocated to Cornwall last year for a change of pace.  As well as being busy with setting up Helen's studio and gallery in Boscastle, they have also recently bought around 11 acres of woodland in Devon.  Among their first jobs have been carrying out some drainage work and creating a pond which will hopefully attract more wildlife and provide further subject matter for Helen's paintings.

Helen describes her work as "quite traditional in style with bold use of colour".  Her preferred medium is working in acrylics.  Given her location, it is hardly surprising that much of Helen's recent work features the stunning Cornish coastal scenery, but she has painted many woodland scenes, and is especially pleased with her pictures of bluebell woods in her native Yorkshire.

If you would be interested in commissioning a painting of your woodland, Helen would be happy to discuss your requirements.  For contact details and examples of her work see www.theoldforgegallery.co.uk.

Through The Mist . Have been looking for a painting for a special Birthday mine , walked into Helens gallery saw it straight away . My husband and I both saw it at the same time.Beautiful, had just been sitting on the harbour wall watching the tide come in eating a Cornish pasty but in the sun not mist. Sometimes you’re in the right place right time. We will enjoy it. Thank you Helen.

Clive and I visited the Gallery and fell in love with the really beautiful work and the super oak frames.
We loved it so much that we had to go back after our walk to look again. We also found Helen a lovely girl and Clive who is an artist himself really enjoyed learning more about her work etc. I would love to have seen pictures of her Echo. house. We will visit again in a quiet season.

I am lucky enough to live in Boscastle, land of wild rugged cliffs and sheltered secret woodlands; Helen has captured the majesty and beauty of the landscapes in her exciting, vibrant colourful detailed and unique style. She is also s wonderfully warm and sensitve being and her connection to the natural world shines through in her stunning paintings. See you soon and sending love from Sahajo and Zeb

I have been visiting Tintagel and Boscastle for many years, we happened to pop into your gallery just before it was closing. I saw the print of Merlins cave, Tintagel, my favourite place in the world. It is hung pride of place in the living room a beautiful print which I shall treasure.

We arrived home tonight, after stopping at Boscastle on our way back from a Cornish holiday. Our Sunflowers print is already hanging in the kitchen, next to the door to the garden. I am looking forward to many years of gazing at the wonderful colours, shades and shapes in this painting.

I saw the work in the gallery today. It is beautiful, I love the picture of the view from forrabury and also one of the harbour in rough weather.
Best wishes,
Fiona.

I love woods because of the mystery contained. I experienced a month long vacation in Canada last year, and its a memorable experience.

If I could work at home online in Canada in woods, that would be great :)

Hello,

My partner David and I saw some of Helen’s work in her Boscastle studio last summer (07) and it is fantastic. We’ve been pining for it ever since and can’t wait to get back to Cornwall.

Being from Canada, I have a deep appreciation for woodlands and conservation. Some of my best friends are avid conservationists so it’s very pleasing to read this article about Helen, her work and her conservation efforts.

Thanks!
